Announcing the Master of Arts in Theological Studies Degree
Southwestern College Professional Studies is excited to announce the Master of Arts in Theological Studies - our newest ministry degree! This new degree rounds out the graduate ministry program for SCPS by offering a degree that is designed to serve those who seek to build on the academic preparation in religion gained in their undergraduate studies. The MATS degree is a nondenominational program designed for the individual interested in the examination of theological principles and constructs of Christian doctrines.
The program provides preparation for doctoral studies in theological disciplines; for service as a staff pastor of education in a church setting; for teaching at a Christian high school, Christian preparatory academy, a Bible institute or college; or as an adjunct at liberal arts colleges, universities, or seminaries. This degree is designed for those learners who want an academic alternative to the practical Specialized Ministry degree in Youth Ministry, and is available completely online.

Making It Happen
As a military spouse, Mary Passmore understands the challenges of the military lifestyle and trying to pursue an education. When working towards her MBA, she moved twice with her husband, Army Major Sean Passmore.
In the 18 months it took Mary to earn her MBA, she – like so many others – knew so little, and made many mistakes. “I took classes that counted for the same credits, I took too many of the wrong types of classes, I didn’t pick my four-year college first, and the list goes on and on,” she said.
As a Southwestern College Professional Studies Academic Success Coach, Mary’s mission is to help military members and their family members identify their goals and put efficient plans in place to help them achieve their goals. “What I know now, after working for two colleges, is that I have answers, answers that allow me to help others not make the same mistakes I did.”
