Career Assessment

If you would like to complete a career assessment to see what careers may be a good fit for you, we recommend the Self Directed Search assessment (it’s not a test) developed by Dr. Holland. The assessment can be completed online for a nominal fee at www.self-directed-search.com.

The assessment is based on Dr. Holland’s occupational-environmental typology. The theory uses a classification of persons to describe and explain individual differences and similarities, and a classification of work environments to describe and explain differences and similarities among positions and occupations.

People can be described by their degree of resemblance to six theoretical personality types:

  • Realistic
  • Investigative
  • Artistic
  • Social
  • Enterprising
  • Conventional

Work environments can be classified into the same six areas. Ideally, a person will want to match their type with the same environment which utilizes the aspects of that certain type.
