Learning Style Readiness
- Am I a self-directed learner?

Based on experience, we have found that success in an online course depends on you, the learner. Self-directed learners who value a convenient, flexible solution to balancing educational goals with career aspirations and family responsibilities find online learning to be an excellent choice.

 

The following questions are designed to assess your readiness for online courses. On a scale of 1 to 5 rate yourself (1 indicating least agreement to 5 indicating greatest agreement). Be honest with yourself.


1. I have a place in my home or at work near my computer that can be claimed as "mine" for extended periods of time for study and communication with other online learners.

2. I can put together blocks of time that will be uninterrupted in which I can work on my online courses (blocks of time may be as little as 15 minutes up to 2 hours, several times a week).

3. I would classify myself as someone who can consistently work on a project and not put everything off until the last minute.

4. When I am asked to use technologies that are new to me (e.g., new software), I will try them even if I feel a bit apprehensive.

5. I feel very comfortable working at a computer.

6. I can be a self-motivated, independent learner. It isn't necessary for me to be in a traditional classroom environment in order to learn.

7. I enjoy reading.

8. I am comfortable communicating with persons in written form using electronic technologies (e.g., e-mail, discussion boards).

9. I have persons and/or resources nearby which can assist me with any technical problems I might have with my software applications as well as my computer hardware.

10. I am at ease working in a text-based medium.
