“I’m Karen Walker and I teach at Southwestern College. “And so you’re going to go look for companies that have that kind of setup”. In my business classes what I teach them is to be able to take basic financial information and apply that to what they do every day in their jobs. “And so we have to know how does the company send money.” Because we do a lot of things online and in the classroom we offer flexibility in our schedule. You can work all day come take our classes and in the on ground environment probably the biggest benefit that gives students especially adults coming back is the ability that I have that eye to eye contact with them. I can tell immediately whether they are getting the materials or they are not but I also teach on blackboard which is an online presence. We can do the emails we can do the discussion board questions we can do live video feeds to our students. So if they are struggling with some of their problems or their questions or they need some additional guidance on their research project we can still give them timely feedback so that they can continue on with their work. As instructors we care about all of our learners and I think it’s important that students not come to the classroom afraid they are too old to learn. No one is ever too old to learn all it takes is the motivation to get there and once we get you there you’re in good hands.”
