Priorities Survey for Online Learners (PSOL)
What is PSOL?
PSOL is the Priorities Survey for Online Learners. With this survey, online learners are asked to report how ‘important’ a service, program or experience is and how ‘satisfied’ they are. Questions cover five key areas including:
- Academic services
- Enrollment services
- Institutional perceptions
- Instructional services
- Student services
Why is Professional Studies implementing PSOL?
During the 2009/2010 academic year, 84% of all Professional Studies enrollments were in online courses, with 16% of enrollments in on-ground courses. That is a dramatic shift compared to the 1999/2000 academic year when 100% of enrollments were in on-ground classes. Because online learners may have different needs, expectations and priorities than those learners completing courses in an on-ground classroom, Professional Studies will be administering the Priorities Survey for Online Learners (PSOL) for the first time in Spring 2011.
A sample of the complete survey is available online here.
Learner satisfaction assessments help to pinpoint areas within the institution that need improvement. Once the instrument has been administered and data become available, we’ll report our initial findings here.
